Amendment of ANA’s International Baggage Policy
TOKYO April 25, 2013 - ANA, Japan’s largest airline, today announces changes to its baggage policy for international flights. The changes apply to tickets all issued on or after Saturday June 1, 2013.
Baggage rules around the world have become increasingly complex as a result of IATA deregulation, which allows individual airlines to freely adopt their own baggage regulations. Coupled with this, changes to the US Department of Transport baggage rules, which came into effect from July 2012, mean that the baggage policy on code-share flights is determined by the first or most significant “marketing carrier” (the airline selling the ticket) rather than the “œoperating carrier” (the airline operating the flight).
ANA Group has strong partnerships with a number of airlines around the globe, enabling it to provide comprehensive travel routes for its customers. In order to consistently improve ease of travel for our customers, ANA is working to standardize baggage rules with its partner airlines. ANA aims to provide an easy-to-understand, simple service by ensuring that, in the vast majority of cases, a single set of baggage rules is applied even when passengers fly on code-share flights, transfer to another airline, or fly outbound and return flights on different airlines.
Date of Application:
For tickets issued on/after Saturday, June 1, 2013.
(1) Economy Class Check-in Baggage Allowance
Free baggage allowance will change from 2 pieces to 1 piece.
(2) Check-in Baggage Size - All Travel Classes
Total linear dimensions for the applicable baggage will change from 203cm (80in) to 158cm (62in).
(3) Excess Baggage Fees
- 2nd Check-in Bag (Honolulu <-> Japan): USD $100
- 3rd Check-in Bag (Honolulu <-> Japan): USD $200

Impact of Sequestration – Federal Government Spending Cuts
Effective March 17, 2013, due to Sequestration - Federal Government spending cuts, the Department of Transportation Airport Division Director recommends all departing passengers to arrive at Honolulu International Airport 30 minutes earlier than usual to ensure timely check in and TSA security check point processing.
As Customs and TSA manning will be affected, our customers may experience delays in processing upon arrival and departure at Honolulu International Airport and all interisland airports. Checked baggage screening will require additional time due to limited TSA manpower.
When checking in for Japan Airlines, to ensure timely check in processing, the baggage and passenger flight check in will be closed at 45 minutes prior to scheduled flight departure time effective March 17, 2013.
Please ensure that all liquid articles (excluding dangerous goods) exceeding 100ml be packed in check in luggage as TSA will only be opening only two security checkpoints in the overseas terminal ; Checkpoint 3 (located next to the JAL check in lobby) and Checkpoint 5 (located next to the United Airlines lobby) due to manning limitations.
Any hand carry liquid articles (excluding dangerous goods) within 100 ml. must be enclosed in a quart size ziplock bag and removed from hand carry luggage during security checkpoint inspection
