Continental Airlines will resume service to Sendai Oct. 2, flying there twice a week from Guam. The new flights mark the first resumption of regular service by a foreign airline at Sendai Airport since the facility reopened on April 13. The airport was temporarily closed after the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11.
Since the earthquake and tsunami, United Continental Holdings has worked to support the victims of the disaster in partnership with the American Red Cross in an effort that includes both monetary contributions and donations of frequent flyer miles. As of today, cash donations from more than 23,000 customers and employees exceed $2.5 million, and loyalty program members have donated more than 63 million miles.
“I am very happy to announce that we will be resuming regular Guam-Sendai flights, which we first began offering 21 years ago,” said Jim Mueller, United’s vice president-Asia/Pacific. “I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to everyone who worked together with us under such trying circumstances to restore flight operations. We look forward to the long-term continuation of regular flight service between Guam and Sendai.”
United Airlines and Continental Airlines together operate 169 weekly flights to nine destinations in Japan.

Japan Airlines (JAL) has requested for approval from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to increase the current level of fuel surcharge on all international passenger tickets issued between August 1 and September 30, 2011.
In April this year, JAL began setting fuel surcharge levels bimonthly based on the 2-month average price, instead of quarterly based on 3-month average price, of Singapore kerosene-type jet fuel.
The price of Singapore kerosene-type jet fuel during the two month period of April and May 2011 averaged US$132.66 per barrel. With reference to the fuel surcharge benchmark list for the fiscal year of 2011 (see below), this corresponds to Zone H of fuel surcharges which range from 3,000 yen on a Japan - Korea ticket to 29,000 yen on a Japan - USA ticket per person per sector flown, on tickets purchased in Japan.
This level of surcharge will be applied to all international passenger tickets issued between August 1 and September 30, 2011.
Fuel Surcharge for the period: August 1 - September 31, 2011
Japan- Hawaii, India, Indonesia - Current Surcharge: US$185.00
Japan- Hawaii, India, Indonesia - New Surcharge: US$213.00
For full details about JAL’s fuel surcharge policy, please refer to http://www.jal.co.jp … ter/fuel/detail.html
- The surcharge applies to flights operated by Japan Airlines as well as code-share flights operated by other airlines.
- The planned level of fuel surcharge is subject to government approval

Globus’ most popular religious itinerary focuses on Israel: JOURNEY THROUGH THE HOLY LAND. Rounding out the “top 3” are FOOTSTEPS OF APOSTLE PAUL which takes travelers through Turkey and Greece and GRAND CATHOLIC ITALY.
In addition to offering travelers vacations designed to take them to the heart of their faith, experiencing the most popular spiritual destinations around the world, thanks to a dedicated religious travel division – created in 2004 – Globus also customizes religious journeys for groups.
“Faith-based journeys should feel as special as they do spiritual. And in that vein, we understand that some groups may desire a more unique and personalized religious getaway,” said Schields. “Whether travelers are looking for a custom set of cities or simply want to edit one of our current itineraries, we can craft journeys that are perfect for each group’s needs, passions and interests.”
